Sweet and sour chicken (or tofu)

 Hello again!

There are times when one just wants to sit down and have some Chinese takeout. Sometimes, it's just too far. So what do we do? We bring Asian cuisine to us! So, today I will be sharing my recipe for sweet and sour chicken. Or, if you're vegetarian, tofu.

Sweet and Sour Chicken (or tofu)

Sauce:

1/2 cup of tomato sauce
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup sugar (or less)
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp sesame oil

Chicken/Tofu:

4 chicken breasts without skin or bones, cubed OR 1 pack of firm tofu, cubed
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tbsp onion powder
1/2 tbsp oregano
1/3 cup soy sauce
*I recommend breading the tofu and frying as well before adding to the sauce. Air frying or pan frying will do it

In a medium bowl, add your chicken or tofu. If using chicken, poke holes with a fork into the meat. Then, add all the dry seasonings. Rub into the chicken well. Then, add in soy sauce and let it sit for about 15 minutes. For tofu, mix the dry and wet ingredients in before adding to the tofu so it does not crumble. Let it sit in the marinade for 5 minutes.

After your chicken or tofu is marinated, stir-fry the chicken for the required time it's needed to cook thoroughly. Or if using tofu, air fry for 15 minutes for a bit of a crunchy texture.

While the protein of choice is cooling, begin making the sauce. Put the tomato sauce in a pan that is pre-oiled with sesame seed oil. Add in all the wet and dry ingredients except for the cornstarch. Mix in well and leave it until it simmers on medium-high heat. In a separate bowl, mix in the cornstarch and water. Stir well, and little by little add it into the sauce while stirring until the desired thickness is reached.

Bring your choice of protein and stir into the sauce with the stove off. Serve with rice, bread, or any other food of choice and enjoy!
